How to Balance College and a Digital Marketing Course
A second-year BBA student stopped me after a seminar last month. She wanted to know if she could manage college and digital marketing course together. She had a notebook full of questions and one big worry. “Sir, college ke lectures, assignments, exams, sab hai. Course bhi kar loon toh sab kuch sambhal payega?”
I told her what I tell most college students. Yes, it’s doable. But only if you plan it, not if you just hope for the best.
Why College Students Are Starting Early
Most students don’t want to wait until graduation to start building skills. They see seniors struggling to find jobs with just a degree. They hear that companies want practical experience. So they start looking for something to add alongside their regular studies.
A college and digital marketing course combination fits this need well. It doesn’t need a lab or a fixed workplace. You can learn it in short sessions, practice on your own laptop, and build a small portfolio before your final year even starts.
Be Honest About Your Time First
Before you enroll anywhere, look at your actual week. Count your lecture hours. Add travel time. Think about assignment deadlines and exam seasons. What’s left is the time you can really give.
Most college students find around ten to twelve hours a week without hurting their studies. That’s enough for a weekend batch or a few evening sessions, plus some practice time. If your schedule shows less than that, wait a month or two. Starting a course you can’t keep up with wastes both money and motivation.
Choose the Right Batch Timing
Weekend batches work best for most college students. Your regular lectures stay untouched, and you get two full days to focus. Evening batches suit students whose college ends early.
Avoid picking a batch that clashes with your attendance requirements. Some colleges are strict about this. A missed lecture here and there is fine, but a regular clash will create problems.
Plan Around Exams
This is where most students slip with college and digital marketing course schedules. They start strong, then exam season arrives and the course gets dropped for weeks. Coming back after a long gap is hard.
A better plan is to check your exam dates before joining. Ask the institute about recorded sessions and doubt-clearing support. At AIMS, students can catch up on missed topics, so a busy exam week doesn’t cost them the whole course. Always ask this question before joining any institute.
Use College as Your Practice Ground
Here’s something many students miss. Your college is full of practice material. Run the social media page for a college club or society. Promote a fest or event online. Write blogs for the college magazine. Help a friend’s small business set up a Google Business Profile.
None of this feels like extra work once you treat it as practice. It also gives you real examples to show in interviews, which matters more than any certificate.
Don’t Try to Learn Everything at Once
College students often try to master SEO, ads, content, and social media in the first month. That usually ends in confusion. Pick one area to focus on first. Get comfortable with it. Then move to the next.
Someone who’s genuinely good at one skill will get hired faster than someone who knows a little of everything. Free certifications from Google Skillshop are a good way to prove that one skill while you study.
A Real Example
One of our students, a B.Com second-year, joined our weekend batch while attending regular college on weekdays. She managed her college’s cultural society page throughout the course. By the time she finished, the page had grown noticeably, and she had screenshots and numbers to show. She landed a paid internship before her final year even began.
She wasn’t a topper or a genius. She just kept a steady schedule and used her college life as practice.
Is It Worth the Effort?
For most students, yes. Handling college and digital marketing course work together pays off. You finish with a degree and a working skill set. You don’t start from zero after graduation. You already have projects, a portfolio, and maybe some work experience.
